Where should I start with a damp room?

What humidity should a basement have?
EPA guidance recommends keeping indoor RH below 60% and ideally 30–50% when practical. A room reading cannot prove that all surfaces and materials are dry. See the basement humidity guide for measurement context.
Can a dehumidifier fix a leak?
No. It removes water vapor from air, not the cause of rainwater entry or a plumbing defect. Correct water sources and check the appliance’s setup and operating conditions.
Are your calculator inputs uploaded?
